Here at Glenelg Support we’ve signed the Age-friendly Employer Pledge. The Age-friendly pledge is a nationwide programme run by the Centre for Ageing Better to make workplaces more age-friendly. The Centre For Ageing Better created the Age-friendly Employer Pledge to recognize the importance and value of older workers. As an employer, we commit to improving work for people in their 50s and 60s and take the necessary action to help them flourish in a multigenerational workplace.
The Age-friendly Employer Pledge is a nationwide programme for employers who:
• recognise the importance and value of older workers.
• are committed to improving work for people in their 50s and 60s (and beyond).
• are prepared to take action to help them flourish in a multigenerational workforce.
Joining the pledge means that we are taking action to improve our recruitment, retention and the development of our workers aged 50 and over. This decision enables us to draw on a wider pool of applicants for each job. It also allows older workers to continue thriving and contributing to our organisation. It also means we can benefit from the innovation and the productivity boost that multigenerational workforces bring.
Rachel Shraa, Glenelg Support’s Recruitment Manager said ‘Glenelg Support has recognized that the job market is evolving, and that people are working later in life. Unfortunately, older workers often face prejudice and are overlooked for roles. We already have good practice in place surrounding diversity, and we want to ensure that we consider all applicants regardless of age, as we understand the importance and positive factors that having a diverse workforce can bring.’
Maria Steele, Training and Development Manager added, ‘We have always been committed to the skills, experience and maturity that older staff bring to the people we support, and the organisation. By joining the Age-friendly pledge, we further demonstrate our ongoing commitment to this cause.’
